Technology, judgment, and a little hard-earned perspective.

I’m Doug Wismer. I’ve spent more than two decades helping organizations make sense of complex technology, from enterprise systems and cloud platforms to cybersecurity, identity, higher education, and custom software. This site is where I share what I’m learning, what I’ve built, and how I think about making technology useful.

A practical path through technology

Perspectives from two decades of bridging the gap between human operations and complex systems.

My career did not start in a server room. It started in restaurants, where the work was immediate, human, and unforgiving. I learned early that great service depends on awareness, timing, and trust. That perspective still shapes how I approach technology today: listen first, understand the real problem, keep the operation moving, and build systems that support people instead of getting in their way.

What I’ve learned to do well

A few of the areas where I’ve spent the most time and attention.

SaaS modernization

Custom application strategy

Identity, access, and cybersecurity

Fractional technology leadership

Higher education and edtech systems

 Rough ideas into production-ready systems

What I’m working on now

Today, much of my work sits at the intersection of strategy and execution. Through Formula1-IT, I help founders, small and mid-sized businesses, and education-focused organizations make better technology choices, modernize systems, and turn ideas into software that can actually run in the real world.
